What truly sets us apart is the unique fact that we have not one, but three married couples on our management team who look after our couples on their wedding day. These dedicated duos bring a rare blend of expertise and genuine care to every wedding they host, ensuring each celebration is filled with warmth, precision and attention to detail.
Alongside these dynamic pairs, we have remarkable team members, whose behind-the-scenes work keeps everything running smoothly. Together, this close-knit team makes Markree Castle a destination where unforgettable memories are created.
Nicholas & Deirdre – General Managers
With over 23 years of working together, husband and wife team, Nicholas and Deirdre, bring unparalleled experience to the weddings at Markree Castle. Having been involved in the planning and execution of over 700 weddings at the Castle alone, their combined expertise covers every aspect of the hospitality industry, from castles and cruise ships to 5-star hotels.
Deirdre holds a degree in hotel management and is trained to the highest standards, while Nicholas, who started his career as a kitchen porter, worked his way through a 5-star hotel’s management programme to become the General Manager of Markree Castle. Their hands-on approach means they are personally involved from the initial planning stages through to the special day itself, ensuring every wedding couple’s dream comes to life. Their dedication and personal touch are reflected in every wedding at Markree Castle.
Eoin & Emer – Operations & Wedding Coordination
As newlyweds themselves, Eoin and Emer understand the excitement and the pressures of planning a wedding. Eoin, the Operations Manager, oversees the day-to-day activities at the Castle, ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. He began his career as a Bar Manager and has steadily worked his way up to managing the Castle’s operations with a calm and capable hand.
Emer, with her background as a qualified teacher, brings a unique perspective to her role as Wedding Coordinator at Markree Castle. From the very first viewing to answering any queries along the way, Emer is your go-to person, ensuring every detail is accounted for. Together, Eoin and Emer bring a sense of understanding, patience and personal connection to each couple they work with, making every wedding a joy to plan.
Lee & Therese – Head Chef & Morning Coordinator
The third husband-and-wife team, Lee and Therese, are pivotal to the success of every wedding at Markree Castle. Lee, the Head Chef, has been working alongside Nicholas and Deirdre for over 700 weddings. With 30 years of culinary experience in everything from 5-star event catering to award-winning gastro pubs, Lee’s passion and expertise shine through in the wedding menus. His creativity and dedication to perfection ensure that every dish of the 73 options on our weddings packages is a culinary masterpiece, and his positive energy sets the tone in the kitchen.
Therese, with her background in hospitality and years of experience as a head housekeeper, is responsible for ensuring the wedding setup is flawless. From arranging the ceremony space to setting the tables and making sure every detail is perfect, Therese’s meticulous attention to detail ensures that each couple’s vision becomes a reality. She’s also the first smiling face couples see the morning after, making sure their first breakfast as newlyweds is just as special as the day before.
Alex – Reception
Often regarded as the heart of Markree Castle, Alex is the friendly face guests meet at reception. Originally from Poland, she has a background as an English teacher and began working at Markree Castle under the Cooper family before returning after the Corscadden family took ownership.
With an in-depth knowledge of the castle’s history and its ghostly legends, Alex is a favourite among guests. Her warm demeanour and passion for the Castle’s stories ensure she’s someone guests will remember long after their stay.
Aga – Banqueting Manager
Behind the scenes, Aga keeps the show running smoothly as Markree Castle’s Banqueting Manager. Hailing from Poland, Aga has been part of the team since the Castle’s reopening, managing a team of nearly 30 banqueting staff.
She works closely with Nicholas and Eoin to ensure that everything from table plans to menus is executed flawlessly. With her calm and efficient leadership, Aga’s organisational skills ensure every wedding at Markree Castle is a seamless, perfectly orchestrated event.
